AL47 is a small, family-owned and operated construction business: a husband-and-wife team that has been building and remodeling around Fredericksburg since 2001.

Our story

Two problem solvers, one business.

AL47 specializes in residential remodeling, new homes and small commercial work. Al & Ginger are both locals who grew up here and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. They are both Christians, with two adult children. Their adult son, Albert John, works alongside them too, making AL47 a true family business.

Al & Ginger met at her birthday party. Al was brought by a mutual friend, and they showed up five and a half hours late. They married in 1996. Their two children have special needs, which is part of the reason they run their own business: to set their own hours and schedule.

They found that their individual talents complemented each other in surprising and, as it turned out, inseparable ways. Both are problem solvers, which is why their expertise is in remodeling. What makes the business thrive is the passion behind it: when you specialize in a field, you protect the work as if it were your own.

History

Over two decades in the field

Al started running other contractors’ building sites around the turn of the millennium, working as a foreman under contract. In 2001 he began contracting himself out under the name AL47, and Ginger joined him full time in 2006.

They set up their own business to give clients exceptional service that lasts for years to come. They work well together and are together 24/7. They’re still happily married.

Meet Al & Ginger

Albert K. Holzscheiter

Al grew up in Key West. His family moved to Fredericksburg in 1984, his freshman year, where he played first-chair tuba in the band and served as an acolyte at church. His parents always had remodeling going on, and Al took an interest. While “finding himself,” he owned a small music shop. He found carpentry when he and Ginger built their own home.

Professionally, he started out laying tile, then moved quickly through the other trades, picking up skills along the way. He eventually began running other contractors’ jobs as a “mercenary” under contract. That’s when AL47 started.

Ginger J. Holzscheiter

Ginger started working in her dad’s shop when she was young and began welding at nine years old. She and her sister did their ranch chores every morning before catching the bus to school. She enjoyed choir and competed in UIL Calculator.

A lifelong resident, she started out working in shops on Main Street in Fredericksburg, where she rose to manage two of them. She retired to be a mom, then officially joined AL47 in 2006.

Hobbies: Baking, hunting, sewing, dancing and mothering

By the time he was 30, he was a master electrician, plumber, carpenter, mason, mechanic. That guy was, to me, a magician. Anything that was broken, he could fix. Anybody anywhere in our community knew that if there was a problem, Carl was there to fix it.
